Better play. More ways to communicate.
SpeechToys is an Australian online store founded by speech pathologist Nick Pennington.
I started it because some of the most useful things in a speech pathology session are not “speech therapy products” at all. They’re toys and games that make someone want another turn, create a reason to explain an idea, or naturally lead to questions, stories and problem-solving.
The aim of SpeechToys is to make those products easier to find — and easier to use.
What we look for
We focus on products that can create useful opportunities for communication, language, play and thinking. That might mean a game for following directions, a pretend-play set for vocabulary and storytelling, or a puzzle that gives someone a reason to plan, explain and ask for help.
We also look for products with good replay value. A toy does not need to look clinical to be useful.
For families and professionals
SpeechToys is designed for parents, speech pathologists, occupational therapists, educators and anyone looking for more purposeful ways to play.
Alongside each product, we aim to add practical ideas for how it can be used, including ways to make an activity easier or more challenging.
Play first. Purpose underneath.
That’s the idea behind SpeechToys.
